After the Show

Hello folks,

I know you are all excited to be joining us for an afternoon of great art and music on Saturday. But alas, the show will only be running until 5:00PM. For those looking to continue their cultural feast on the 14th, I have a few recommendations. Once you have purchased your new conversation piece or showstopping centerpiece, head out for dinner, then take in one of these great events!

  1. Fire Exit Theatre/Hit and Myth’s Shadowlands C. S. Lewis is perhaps most famous for his Chronicles of Narnia series of books. This play looks into some of Lewis’ more personal struggles with pain and love and faith. Find them at 7:30PM in the Engineered Air Theatre in the Arts Commons downtown.
  2. The Youth Singers of Calgary’s Wish GrantedThe Youth Singers’ Spring Mainstage Show follows three children and their magical journey through an enchanted wood. The show is at 7:00PM at the Jubilee Auditorium
  3. Theatre Calgary’s The Light in the Piazza1950’s romance. The beauty of Italy. Family secrets. What more could you ask for from an evening at the theatre. The show starts at 8:00PM at the Max Bell Theatre in the Arts Commons.
  4. The Shakespeare Company’s Good Night Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)For those who are intrigued by Shakespeare but are worried about getting in over their heads with lofty language, this comedy by Canadian playwright Ann-Marie MacDonald is sure to please.

With options like these, you are sure to have an amazing day of art, music, and theatre. Take some time this weekend to delve into the human condition and reflect upon what beauty really is. You won’t regret it.

See you all on Saturday!

Welcome to Preview Week!

Hello everyone!

Over the next week, we are going to be looking at some of the people involved in this year’s illuminART Show and Sale. We will highlight some of the creative team behind the show, a few of our artists, our musical groups, and our venue. So, tune in each day to learn more about what’s going on at the 2016 illuminART Show.

To begin, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Brandon Trotter, and I am the coordinator for the illuminART Show.

I began my journey with the arts as an actor. After finishing theatre school, I traveled around Western Canada for a few years performing for a number of companies. After receiving a call into ministry, I went back to school for a Theology degree, and have since been working at RockPointe Church as Drama Ministry Coordinator, fusing my love of God and my love of the performing arts.

I am blessed to be married to the most wonderful woman I have known. We have two young boys who keep us busy all the time. When not writing for the church or for myself, I like to read, run, play board games, and brew beer in my kitchen. My passion is to see artists walk along their faith journey and to tell awesome stories through a multitude of media.

Over the winter, I was asked to lead the revival of a previous art show that had been inert for 5 years. We rebranded the event as the illuminART Show and Sale and have been working furiously with a very talented team to bring it all together.

I look forward to seeing all of you on May 14th. It’s going to be a great show!

Welcome to the illuminART Show!

Hello everyone!

Calgary is home to thousands and thousands of artists. From the hobbyists to the world renowned, from the traditional to the experimental, people around the city are creating ART! Others people are looking for art, whether for home, the office, a college dorm room, or a new gallery. It is our aim to bring these two groups together.

To that end, we are excited to announce  the illuminART Show.

On May 14th, artists and art appreciators will descend upon RockPointe Church’s Bearspaw location to celebrate the work of local creatives. We invite everyone interested to stop on by to peruse, and perhaps purchase, the wonderful work we will have on display.

As we come closer to the event, we will spotlight a few chosen artists who will be at the event, so stayed tuned.

With your help, we can make this an enriching and exciting experience for all!
